The Guard Movie Review

This weekend is not a very good one for movies. So I thought I would go see a movie that came out three weeks ago but just opened near me.

The Guard is a dark comedy starring Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle. Gleeson stars as Sergeant Doyle an officer of the law who lives in Ireland. Cheadle plays an FBI agent who gets teamed up with him to investigate an international drug-smuggling ring.

The thing with this movie is even though it is a comedy, and a good one at that, it’s not the kind of movie that will have laughing out loud the whole time. There are some good laughs but I wouldn’t call it hysterical. It’s just a different kind of humor.

Most of the humor comes from Gleeson’s character. He is very rude, brash, and even can be obnoxious. We also find out that he’s a bit of a racist. It’s not that he’s a bad person though, it seems like he’s just ignorant.

Brendan Gleeson and Don Cheadle both deliver really solid performances here. They play off each other very well.

I think this a movie worth seeing especially during the weak movie season we’re going thought now.

I’m going to give it a 7/10.
